Autism is part of a group of symptoms called withdrawal, which is to be understood as avoiding contact with the outside world – with people and the environment. It is thought to be a brain disorder, perhaps genetic predisposition. However, despite identifying many factors that increase the risk of autism, its cause has not yet been fully understood.

Autism is a neurological disorder that affects the brain and can have a genetic background. The first symptoms of this condition are revealed at the stage of childhood and last for a lifetime. Autism is characterized by a lack of response from the child to commands, lack of play with peers, problems with expressing emotions, or communicating with both gestures and speech. Often the behavior of an autistic child is taken as weird. This disease has many variants, it happens that the baby just grows slower – what is often confused with autism. Although there are many factors that increase the risk of autism, the specific causes of the disease are still unknown.
Not entirely sure what causes autism, but the main factors are genetics (a large number of genes responsible for autism) and the environment. In some autistic patients who have undergone the study, some abnormalities have been reported in several areas of the brain. In addition, other studies suggest that people with autism have bad levels of serotonin and other neurotransmitters in the brain. This may all suggest that early fetal developmental disturbances and genetic disorders can influence the onset of the disease.
About 15-20% of children with autism have a genetic mutation that contributes to their development. Some genetically determined diseases such as fragile X syndrome or Rett syndrome are well known to increase the risk of autism. If parents have one child with autism, the risk of having another with this disorder is nearly 20 percent. This is a groundbreaking study by researchers at the University of California at Davis. For those who have two autistic children, the likelihood of the third being autistic is as high as 32 percent.
Many studies indicate that the anticonvulsant may increase the risk of autism in children who were exposed to it before they came to the world. Another study published last year showed a higher risk of this disorder among children exposed in fetal life to anti-depressant drugs. In turn, the use of prenatal vitamins was associated with a lower risk of autism.
In typical forms, autism is revealed before the age of 3. The first disturbing behaviors of the child are usually observed by the parents – in some cases already in infancy. They are worried that the child is too polite, calm, does not react to noise, does not focus on people coming in when he or she gets in his arms – stiffens, gazes at one point for hours, e.g. ticking clock, not chatting, not develops speech. It is also possible that initially the development of the child is going well, and strange behavior occurs suddenly.
